Hammattan Glam

Hammattan season is here again!

The dry, dusty, relatively humid weather that runs from November to March, or there about. (My geography hasn't been updated yet x_x).

The season comes with running nose, cracked lips and dusty skin.

Due to the dryness and harshness of the harmattan weather, you should be mindful of what you wear and also pay more attention to your skin to avoid cracking a skin.

The skin can be kept healthy by moisturising, moisturising and more moisturising, and also wearing weather-friendly dressing and protective cloths such as sweaters, caps, socks, covered shoes and blankets that can prevent them from being exposed to cold.

To avoid cracking, always ensure you constantly apply lip gloss on your lips. Your eyes also needs to be protected, since the eyes are directly exposed to the harsh weather especially the dust particles carried by the wind, so to reduce exposure to dust, protective spectacles are advocated.

When it comes to clothing, during the day it is hot so pack lightweight layers in natural fabrics, such as linen and cotton that will keep you cool and are easier to wash and dry. Keep to light, neutral colours but not white - as it will get dirty and dusty very quickly. Avoid blue or black clothing - the tsetse flies are drawn to these colours, and their bite can give you African Sleeping Sickness. And don't forget a safari hat or cap to protect you from the sun. Pack a couple of scarves or shawls, as there will often be times when it will be necessary to cover your head.

Now you know this ;), enjoy “your fabulously smooth and sleek” hammattan season. Happy new year :D

Harmmattan Season's must-haves

Saw this on one of my favourite bloggers, here's her link  venussbay, y'all should check her out
The Harmatan Season, marked by hot windy days and chilly nights is here again. Dry skin, chapped lips, cracked feet, dusty lids and hair? A no-no. Prep up for the season with these must haves:
1.Lip balm
2. Moisturizing body lotions and creams
3. Petroleum jelly
4. Breezy dresses
5. Sweaters, shawls
6. If your hair is natural, it has more chances of withstanding the drying effects of the tough weather; if your hair has been relaxed, keep it plaited, braided or constantly moisturized.

 I really needed this though...lol
Love you Fairiess Always

Makeup 101: Makeup Sins

1. Wearing foundation or powder on bear skin:
Ladies it is essential that you moisturize and use a primer. It helps your makeup last longer and it also helps your skin as a moisturiser would act like a layer between your skin and the foundation or powder.
2. Wearing eyeshadow without eyeliner and mascara:

I don't care how good the eyeshadow application is, without these 2 items it looks incomplete
3. Wearing eyeshadow without a primer or a base:

A primer or base would help your eyeshadow last longer, look more vibrant and would prevent it from creasing
4. Clown Makeup:
I have seen this done on a few brides and its quite sad to look at. I do not care how much you are paying your makeup artiste but blue eyeshadow with red blush and red lips makes you look like a clown. When in doubt on what colors to pair, use the color wheel as a guide.

Skincare 103: Facial Skincare Tips

Started off in our previous post on step 1 and 2 on facial skincare tips, feel free to check it out if you missed out on it.
Step 3: Exfoliate(tone)
Exfoliation is the step most people skip in their weekly skincare routine. But trust me, if you start properly exfoliating your skin, you will notice an almost immediate difference. There are several exfoliating options that I use weekly.

Here are my favorites: A facial scrub- You can buy a great scrub I prefer salt scrubs to sugar ones, but it's just a matter of preference. A washcloth- Put a dab of cleanser and a sprinkle of white refined sugar on a damp washcloth and massage skin in a circular motion. After a quick rinse, any sign of dead skin is erased. If you have dry skin, try extra virgin coconut oil.

Should you use a toner? Toners are meant to remove all remaining traces of oil, makeup and dirt, but a good cleanser should do this. I firmly believe it's up to you. If you like the way your skin feels with a toner. Buy it. Use it. Enjoy it.

Step 4: Apply Sunscreen
The #1 cause of wrinkles is sun damage, so it's important to use a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF from your early years .

A great trick is to purchase two facial creams: One for night and one for day that includes UV protection.
Don't use moisturizers with sunscreen at night, the ingredients are not meant to be used 24/7 and can aggravate skin
